Rights and Responsibilities

Rights and Responsibilities

"The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met. Therefore, every person has a fundamental right to life and a right to those things required for human decency. Corresponding to these rights are duties and responsibilities--to one another, to our families, and to the larger society."

Key Terms: common good,  free trade v. fair trade, globalization (as well as economic globalization), private property (origins and limits), solidarity

This week, in conjunction with our Catholic Relief Service (CRS) - campaign Operation Rice bowl (pages 171 ff), we will explore Chapter 8 of our text, Right and Responsibilities in a Globalized Context (pages 161-179).

It will be important to bring your binder especially your text to class.
In the the left margin, you will find link to key documents and terms for this chapter. Also I will provide some video links in an effort to "unpack" some of the economic realities of what this principle challenges.

You will also have time to move into your praxis groups and discuss you topic as well as begin researching your issue.
